Omaha, Nebraska – The Fourth of July festivities began with enthusiasm at the riverfront, despite the inclement weather conditions. Omaha citizens, resilient in the face of rain, converged on the Gene Leahy Mall situated in the heart of the city’s downtown district.
A distinctive event was arranged in honor of Independence Day, featuring a myriad of festive activities. Attendees indulged in cupcakes adorned with patriotic red and blue stars, enjoyed face painting sessions, and were delighted by an assortment of balloon animals.
Participants also had the unique opportunity to craft their own star-shaped magnets and take photographs with a stilt walker who was dressed in Fourth of July themed attire. This stilt walker, Peter Brunette, who has been performing for almost a decade, expressed his excitement for another year of engaging performances.
Brunette remarked, “I’ve always liked to entertain people and I found that when I’m on stilts and in fun costumes, people are much happier to come up to talk to me, to chat with me. Whereas, if I’m on the ground, it’s a little harder to get those interactions.”
Anticipation continues to build for further amusements at the Gene Leahy Mall. On the Fourth of July itself, a fireworks display is scheduled to take place at 8:30 p.m. Be sure to stay updated for this spectacle and more.
