Omaha, Nebraska – The City of Omaha has shared details in an announcement about alterations to the standard waste collection schedule in light of the forthcoming Independence Day holiday.
The Environmental Quality Division, a part of the Public Works Department, confirms that FCC, the city’s official solid waste collection contractor, will acknowledge the Independence Day holiday on Tuesday, July 4th, 2023.
As such, no collection of garbage or recyclable materials will occur on Tuesday, July 4th. Nevertheless, this will not interfere with the collections scheduled for Monday, July 3rd. For the rest of that week, from July 5th to 8th, all collection services will experience a one-day delay due to the holiday.
Under this adjusted schedule, materials usually collected on Tuesday should be prepared for collection on Wednesday, and likewise, Wednesday materials should be available on Thursday. Thursday’s collections will transition to Friday, and the pickups originally scheduled for Friday will be shifted to Saturday, July 8th, 2023. The city advises residents to arrange for their materials to be ready for collection no later than 6:00 a.m. on the newly assigned days.
Citizens are urged to use caution in the disposal of fireworks. Fireworks are not recyclable and should be disposed of only when safe to do so in the black lid garbage cart. Fireworks and their debris can remain hot and ignite long after their use. Replacement of carts damaged by fireworks or melted from hot fireworks is the responsibility of the resident.
From the week of July 10th through July 14th, 2023, the usual Monday to Friday collection schedule will resume.
