Omaha teenagers denied bond in fatal shooting case

Omaha, Nebraska – A judge denied bond on Friday morning for the three teenagers arrested earlier this week after a mass shooting in North Omaha. The shooting, a stark reminder of the ongoing issue of gun violence, resulted in the death of one individual and injuries to five others. The gravity of the incident was reflected in the court’s decision on Friday morning.

The three teenagers in question were denied bond in court, indicating the severity of the charges against them. William Brown, aged 19, faced multiple charges in the Douglas County jail court. He was formally accused of one count of first-degree murder, five counts of first-degree felony assault, and one count of using a weapon to commit a felony. Additionally, two 17-year-olds, whose names were not disclosed, faced similar charges in juvenile court.

These charges are related to a drive-by mass shooting that occurred near 24th and Clark Streets in North Omaha. This tragic event, which took place on Oct. 1, claimed the life of 16-year-old Lamarantae Swift and left five others wounded. According to surveillance video evidence, Brown and the two other accused were seen firing shots from a stolen car during the incident.

All three are scheduled to have preliminary hearings on Jan. 19.

In a sad turn of events, just three days after the mass shooting that led to Lamarantae Swift’s death, his cousin, Dontayzhia Swift, was also tragically killed in a separate shooting.

The denial of bond for the accused teens is a critical step in the legal proceedings and reflects the serious nature of their alleged crimes. As the investigation continues, the community seeks justice for the victims and their families, while also confronting the broader issues of gun violence and safety.
