Elderly woman killed in ambulance crash near Douglas County line

Omaha, Nebraska – A 72-year-old woman lost her life on Thursday morning as a result of an ambulance crash near the Douglas County line. The accident occurred at approximately 10:15 a.m. at the intersection of 204th and Harrison streets when an ambulance, operated by Gretna Rescue, collided with two other vehicles.

Tragically, the elderly woman, who was a patient in the ambulance, did not survive the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene. Another individual who was also in the ambulance sustained injuries and was transported to receive medical care.

Reports indicate that the ambulance had its lights and sirens activated as it was on its way to a hospital when the collision took place.

As a result of the accident, northbound 204th Street was temporarily closed, and authorities expected it to remain inaccessible until approximately 1 p.m. Officials urged drivers to seek alternative routes to avoid the affected area.

The circumstances surrounding the crash are still under investigation, with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office leading the inquiry. Responding to the incident were authorities from Omaha and Gretna as well.
