Nebraska – In a significant push towards digital inclusivity, Nebraska and Iowa are slated to receive $405 million and $415 million respectively, as part of an initiative to ensure high-speed broadband internet accessibility for all residents, with a particular focus on rural areas.
This substantial commitment was underscored in President Biden’s “Internet for All” declaration on Monday. The announcement signified the commencement of the second phase of his administration’s nationwide “Investing in America” program. As part of this project, a hefty sum of $42.45 billion is set to be dispersed throughout the country. The aim of these funds is to establish affordable and reliable high-speed internet services across the United States, extending its reach even to regions currently devoid of service or plagued by inadequate speed.
The specific amount allocated to Nebraska is $405,281,070.41, which translates to roughly $206.35 per inhabitant, based on data from the U.S. Census Bureau. On the other hand, Iowa has been earmarked to receive $415,331,313.00, amounting to approximately $130.07 per individual.
During his announcement, President Biden reiterated the universality of the proposed benefits, stating, “These investments will help all Americans. We’re not going to leave anyone behind.” He further affirmed his commitment to reducing the costs associated with the service, now considered a standard utility in households.
