According to reports, a 28-year-old woman, later identified as Karyn, stands accused of severe child abuse, including physical harm and mental torment, against her child under five years of age. The mother faces charges that highlight a disturbing pattern of behavior towards her young child, further exacerbated by the involvement of the victim’s sibling in the abuse.Karyn was arrested and charged with one count of felony child abuse following an investigation that revealed alarming details of her actions. The investigation was prompted by a welfare check conducted by deputies from the Sheriff’s Office and investigators from the Department of Child and Family Services at Karyn’s residence.
When deputies arrived, they met with Karyn and asked to speak with her two children. During the interaction with the children, deputies encountered a child under the age of five who exhibited signs of distress, shaking, and crying. The child had recently received a new haircut and displayed a bruise on their cheek, nearly two inches in size. Deputies asked the child how they got the bruise, and the child stated, “Maybe my mom. Maybe she was slapping me around. She doesn’t remember. Mommy tells her she doesn’t remember things.'” Karyn later admitted that she slapped the child at least three times.
Through investigative means, detectives also discovered videos on Karyn’s phone in which she directed one of her children to strike their sibling with a belt. In one of the recordings, Karyn can be heard laughing and saying, “Hit harder. Hit hard, baby. Beat the crap out of the sly devil.” Detectives additionally uncovered a video in which Karyn was cutting the victim’s hair and verbally taunting them, saying to her child that they were going to be tortured, and if they died, then so be it.
Karyn was arrested and is currently being held in jail with a bond set at $7,500. In a subsequent court appearance, a judge ordered that Karyn, if released, must have no contact with the victim or any other minor, including her other children. The children were removed from the home and placed in the care of a relative.
