Man, who picked up a pregnant woman, who was also mother of three other children, and stabbed her 14 times in the neck, killing both her and the 20-week-old unborn child, was sentenced to life in prison

Court records show that a 30-year-old man, later identified as Curteze, who was indicted for malice murder and feticide in October, has now been handed two life sentences for the gruesome murder of a pregnant woman, later identified as Breanna, and her 20-week-old unborn child. The sentencing, delivered without the option of parole until 2052, marks a somber conclusion to a case that has deeply affected the community and beyond.

Breanna’s life was brutally taken in the early hours of July 27, 2022. An officer patrolling the area found Breanna dead, with numerous apparent stab wounds. She had been stabbed in the throat at least 14 times. She and her unborn child were pronounced dead at the scene. Breanna was also the mother of three children. The investigation quickly led to Curteze. Through cell phone records, the police department was quickly able to connect Breanna to a friend who was with her shortly before the crime. That friend told law enforcement the last time she saw Breanna was with Curteze, driving away in a neon green Chevrolet Camaro.

Investigators were able to track the movement of the Camaro using traffic cameras to and from the murder scene shortly before and after the time of the murder. The Camaro was subsequently located at a residence a few hours after the murders, with blood on the outside of the car. Investigators obtained a search warrant for the car and residence and found Curteze hiding inside the residence. A search of the car revealed blood throughout the inside of the car. A search of the residence where Curteze was found revealed blood inside the residence and blood-stained clothes in the washing machine and dryer. DNA analysis of the blood matched Breanna.

Prosecutors expressed relief at securing a life sentence for Curteze, acknowledging the irreversible pain inflicted on Breanna’s family but highlighting the importance of justice being served. Curteze’s conviction brings a degree of closure to a case that exemplified the darkest aspects of human capacity for violence. Breanna, remembered as a single mother of three, is mourned by a grieving family that still seeks solace after her senseless murder. Pamela, Breanna’s mother, shared her anguish over the brutal manner of her daughter’s death and the subsequent disposal of her body.
