Omaha, Nebraska – The Omaha Police Department announced on Wednesday evening that they were seeking a male suspect alleged to have assaulted another individual using a machete earlier in the day.
The incident led to a street in a southern Omaha district being cordoned off on Wednesday evening, as law enforcement responded to a residence in proximity to 21st and F streets. The scene was attended by multiple officers shortly before 3:45 p.m.
According to OPD Lt. Brian Schmaderer, who provided an on-site briefing, a person was injured with a machete and subsequently transported to a local hospital, where they were reported to be in stable condition.
Law enforcement initially suspected the assailant had barricaded himself within a residence. Despite efforts, negotiators were unsuccessful in establishing contact and were required to wait for judicial authorization to enter the premises.
Upon receiving legal permission to enter the property, officers were able to verify that the suspect was not on the site, as confirmed by Lt. Schmaderer.
With no arrests made as yet, the investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
