Fatal shooting and multiple injuries reported in Omaha suburb

Omaha, Nebraska – The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office released additional information about a harrowing shooting incident that occurred overnight at a residence outside the Omaha city limits.

Authorities confirmed that 51-year-old Edmond Sagitteh was found dead from a gunshot wound to the head in the basement of a home near 111th and Black streets. The scene painted a grim picture: “Deputies located the shotgun next to Edmond, a handgun that appeared jammed lying on the bed, and additional shotgun rounds in Edmond’s pocket,” the sheriff’s office reported. It was later concluded that Sagitteh’s death was a result of suicide.

The situation escalated dramatically when deputies discovered four other individuals in the master bathroom. A 19-year-old woman had suffered a gunshot wound to the stomach, and a 46-year-old woman had a bullet graze on her hand. Two teenage girls were also present but were not physically harmed. This discovery underscores the terrifying nature of the event and the risk it posed to multiple lives.

The incident initially came to light at 2:18 a.m. when an assault was reported at the residence, leading Irvington Fire & Rescue to respond to a shooting. The investigation unfolded a chilling sequence of events. Sagitteh allegedly shot the 19-year-old with a handgun while she was in bed. She, along with the other three individuals, managed to reach the master bedroom, where they attempted to barricade themselves. However, Sagitteh fired two shotgun rounds through the door, injuring the older woman’s hand. In a desperate move for safety, they retreated into the bathroom.

The terror did not end there. Sagitteh fired two more shots into the bathroom door. The quick-thinking victims held the door shut and managed to deflect the shotgun barrel away as they called 911. Their actions in such a critical moment likely prevented further harm.

Both injured women were transported to Nebraska Medical Center for treatment, highlighting the physical and emotional toll of the incident. The sheriff’s Criminal Investigation Division and Forensic Service Division responded to the scene, indicating the seriousness of the investigation.
