Omaha woman sentenced for criminal possession charges in Johnson County

Johnson County, Nebraska – In a recent ruling by the Johnson County District Court, Judge Rick Schreiner handed down a two-year prison sentence to an Omaha resident, Ms. Kari Bass, for the Criminal Possession of a Financial Transaction Device. Simultaneously, she received a two-year sentence for Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument.

The legal action against Ms. Bass, aged 33, is in connection with an episode that transpired on August 15, 2022.

Both sentences are set to run concurrently, and Ms. Bass will be given credit for the duration she has already been in custody. Additionally, a twelve-month post-release supervision period has been mandated.

The arrest of Ms. Bass was executed by Johnson County law enforcement in August 2022. This took place in Tecumseh following a traffic stop, instigated by a deputy observing a northbound vehicle on Highway 50 that had a malfunctioning headlight.

Subsequent to the traffic stop, an inspection of the vehicle revealed several counterfeit bills along with multiple debit and credit cards, which were not in Ms. Bass’s name. The aggregate value of the counterfeit currency amounted to $1,510. Furthermore, eight credit or debit cards were retrieved from a wallet owned by Ms. Bass. It’s noteworthy to mention that the counterfeit bills were predominantly located in her wallet, though some were dispersed within the vehicle.
