Lincoln, Nebraska – The Nebraska Farm Bureau Foundation has officially announced that it is open to receiving applications for the Nebraska Rural Radio Foundation Scholarship, established in the honor of Max and Eric Brown. The scholarship program is tailored to non-traditional students – those who are seeking to further their education through trade schools, vocational training, or additional college credits – and who demonstrate a strong commitment to residing in rural communities of Nebraska. Successful applicants can anticipate awards up to $2,500.
Megahn Schafer, the Executive Director of the Nebraska Farm Bureau Foundation, acknowledged the pivotal role rural communities play in Nebraska, stating, “Rural communities are at the heart of Nebraska. Keeping them vibrant means future successes for agriculture and ensuring the traditions of small towns are preserved. This scholarship supports individuals who are dedicated to protecting the vitality of rural Nebraska.”
The 2024 scholarship application process is currently underway, focusing on non-traditional learners aged 25 and older who are living in Nebraska’s rural regions. As per the requirements, applicants should be furthering their education within the state of Nebraska, which may include community college, technical school, or other training programs, spanning all possible fields of study.

Reflecting on the accomplishments of past awardees, they have embarked on a diverse range of academic pursuits, from EMT training to obtaining advanced degrees such as Master’s and nursing qualifications. The scholarship aided these individuals in alleviating the financial constraints associated with their educational journey, enabling them to remain committed to their rural communities in Nebraska.
Max and Eric Brown, in whose honor the scholarship is named, were devoted servants to rural Nebraska, with Max serving as the General Manager of KRVN and both engaging in volunteer leadership roles in various agricultural organizations. The scholarship serves to continue their legacy of supporting the farmers, ranchers, and their communities.
