Man denied ever hitting his pregnant girlfriend and said if he ever did, it was only to defend himself after he kicked her in the stomach and stomped on her face repeatedly, leaving both his girlfriend and her baby dead; sentenced

According to court records, the 49-year-old man, later identified as Jay, who was initially charged with two counts of second-degree murder stemming from the brutal murder of his 25-year-old pregnant girlfriend, later identified as Jennifer, and her baby, has now been sentenced to life imprisonment.

The severity of the attack was such that it reportedly left shoe tread marks on Jennifer’s skull, indicating the brutal nature of the assault. Jennifer, who was six months pregnant at the time, and her baby both tragically died shortly after a premature birth triggered by the violence. The harrowing details of the attack were brought to light during the trial. Jessica, a friend of the victim, testified, witnessing Jay pinning Jennifer against a bedroom wall and assaulting her repeatedly. Jessica described how Jay picked Jennifer up, slammed her to the ground multiple times, and stomped on her stomach and head, even as she was visibly pregnant.

The police, responding to a 911 call made at 3:25 a.m., arrived at the scene to find Jennifer unresponsive, with severe bruises and swelling around her head. Despite immediate life-saving measures, Jennifer and her baby could not be saved. According to the affidavit, a witness saw Jay continue to beat Jennifer even after she fell to her knees, and he threatened the witness with violence when she attempted to intervene.

Jay tried to negotiate a plea deal before the trial, but the prosecutors rejected him. During his testimony, he portrayed Jennifer as the aggressor, claiming that any physical contact from his side was merely in self-defense. He denied hitting her or being responsible for her death. The authorities’ evidence, however, painted a different picture, matching the shoe tread marks on Jennifer’s skull to the shoes Jay wore that night. The jury took less than an hour to return a guilty verdict for the two counts of second-degree murder.
