Macy resident receives federal prison sentence for assaulting law enforcement officer during arrest attempt

Omaha, Nebraska – A 23-year-old Nebraska man has been sentenced in federal court after admitting to assaulting a federally funded law enforcement officer during an arrest on the Omaha Nation Indian Reservation.

United States Attorney Lesley A. Woods announced that Britain Snyder, of Macy, Nebraska, was sentenced on July 2, 2026, in federal court in Omaha for assaulting a federal officer.

Chief United States District Court Judge Robert F. Rossiter, Jr. sentenced Snyder to one year and one day in federal prison. Under the federal system, there is no parole. After completing his prison sentence, Snyder will also serve three years of supervised release.

Assault occurred during attempt to take Snyder into custody

According to court records, the incident happened on or about Oct. 26, 2024, while a police officer with the Omaha Nation Law Enforcement Services was carrying out her official duties.

Authorities said the officer’s position was funded through a federal contract.

The officer responded to a residence on the Omaha Nation Indian Reservation in Macy, Nebraska, to assist with removing Snyder from the property.

Investigators said Snyder fled the scene and attempted to hide from law enforcement.

The officer later located him and attempted to take him into custody. During the arrest, Snyder resisted and assaulted the officer by headbutting her in the head.

Federal authorities charged Snyder with assaulting a federal officer because the victim was serving in a federally funded law enforcement role while performing official duties at the time of the incident.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation investigated the case, which was prosecuted in federal court.

With sentencing now complete, Snyder will serve his federal prison term before beginning his three-year period of supervised release as ordered by the court.
