Omaha, Nebraska – A Fremont resident, 26-year-old Jarrett Chappelear, has been handed down a 13-year prison sentence on drug-related charges. The verdict was delivered on Friday in a federal court in Omaha.
The acting U.S. attorney provided details of the charges, stating that Chappelear was found guilty of distributing methamphetamine while in possession of a firearm. Breaking down the sentencing, Chappelear received eight years for the distribution of methamphetamine and an additional five years for possessing a firearm during a drug deal, cumulatively serving a 13-year term.
Upon completing his prison sentence, Chappelear is slated to undergo a four-year term of supervised release. It’s important to note that the federal system does not offer parole provisions.
The backdrop of this case can be traced back to October 29, 2021. Court documents reveal that the Nebraska State Patrol in Norfolk arranged a controlled purchase using a confidential informant. This operation led to the acquisition of 1,245 grams of pure meth from Chappelear. Shortly after this controlled buy, troopers intercepted Chappelear while he was driving away.
Upon inspection, authorities found Chappelear in possession of an FNS 9mm handgun and two extra magazines loaded with ammunition. The Nebraska State Patrol was in charge of the thorough investigation that led to Chappelear’s sentencing. The case underscores the vigilant efforts of state authorities to combat drug trafficking and associated criminal activities.
