Teen girl shot her 5-year-old brother in the head while he was laying on the couch and shot her father multiple times in the chest and back because she was uncontrollably compelled to kill; arrested

A 17-year-old girl, later identified as Mashenka, is facing serious charges after the fatal shooting of two family members, an act she attributed to an uncontrollable urge. This case highlights a deeply disturbing act of domestic violence that resulted in the loss of life and severe trauma to the surviving family member.

Mashenka has been charged with two counts of open murder with a deadly weapon and one count of attempted murder with a deadly weapon, as per the records from the Sheriff’s Office. The father, later identified as Justin, and Mashenka’s brother, were found dead at their apartment on February 9. In a call to 911, Mashenka chillingly admitted to shooting her father and brother, confessing that her brother was dead and that she had left the murder weapon, a Walther PPS, inside their residence. During the emergency call, Mashenka expressed to the dispatcher a compelling urge to kill, “I just couldn’t resist the urge to kill somebody,” she said.

Upon arrival, officers detained Mashenka and found her younger brother, a child aged approximately 4 or 5, shot in the head and lying on a living room couch. Justin was discovered in the garage, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the chest and back. Shortly after their arrival, emergency personnel declared both victims dead. Miraculously, Mashenka’s younger sister was found alive after officers forced entry into another part of the apartment.

Following her arrest, Mashenka was taken to the police department’s headquarters, where she chose to invoke her right to remain silent upon being presented with a youth-adapted Miranda statement. Initially faced with two open murder charges, an additional charge of attempted murder was later added to Mashenka’s case. Mashenka remains in county jail without bail. She is expected to make her appearance on March 28th.
