Omaha, Nebraska – Douglas County residents now have a more convenient way to get documents notarized without needing to travel to the courthouse. As of January 6, 2026, the Douglas County Clerk of the District Court has officially launched its Remote Online Notary (RON) service, offering secure and efficient online notarizations using two-way audio-visual technology.
This new service is especially helpful for individuals with mobility issues, tight schedules, or those living far from the courthouse. By using RON, residents can complete their notarization process from anywhere in the country with internet access.
“The new service allows customers greater flexibility and convenience and saves them a trip to the courthouse,” said Douglas County Clerk of the District Court Crystal Rhoades.
How the Process Works
To use the service, residents must first schedule an appointment through the Clerk of the District Court’s website at https://clerk.dc4dc.com/remote-online-notary-service. Once an appointment is set:
-
The resident receives an email with detailed instructions.
-
A secure Zoom link is added to the appointment confirmation.
-
During the session, all fees must be paid by credit card.
-
The documents will be signed using a secure, state-authorized third-party platform via email.
-
After completion, the notary applies an official electronic notary signature and seal and returns the documents via email.
Each notarization is also logged in a secure digital notary journal, as required by Nebraska law.
Available Nationwide
Though the service is provided by Douglas County, it can be accessed by individuals regardless of their location in the United States. This means residents away on business, traveling, or living temporarily outside the state can still take advantage of the program.
For questions about the new service, residents can email onlinenotary@douglascounty-ne.gov.
With the launch of this Remote Online Notary service, Douglas County takes a meaningful step toward modernizing local government services and making legal tasks more accessible to everyone.
