Omaha man sentenced to federal prison after assaulting officers and damaging multiple law enforcement vehicles

Omaha, Nebraska – A 20-year-old Omaha man is now facing time behind bars after a confrontation with federal law enforcement escalated into violence, property damage, and a dangerous situation involving a growing crowd. Federal officials confirmed that Osmar Lorenzo-Genchi was sentenced on March 18, 2026, in Omaha to 22 months in prison for assaulting, resisting, or impeding officers while intending to commit another felony.

The sentence was handed down by United States District Judge Brian C. Buescher. In addition to his prison term, Lorenzo-Genchi will serve three years of supervised release after completing his sentence. He was also ordered to pay $2,284.40 in restitution for damages caused during the incident. Federal officials noted that there is no parole in the federal system.

Encounter at worksite turns into violent confrontation

The events that led to the charges unfolded on June 10, 2025, when federal authorities were carrying out a civil search warrant at Glenn Valley Foods in Omaha. Homeland Security Investigations agents were on site to verify the legal work status of employees. During the process, employees were interviewed and biometrics were collected.

Lorenzo-Genchi was among those encountered by law enforcement. Authorities identified him as a U.S. citizen, documented his information, and released him after escorting him off the property. At that point, the situation appeared routine and complete.

However, tensions quickly escalated after the identification process concluded. A Deputy United States Marshal, along with two others, attempted to leave the area in a law enforcement vehicle heading eastbound on J Street. As they tried to depart, several members of the public, including Lorenzo-Genchi, blocked the roadway.

Officials say individuals stood in front of the vehicle and repeatedly moved to obstruct its path, preventing it from leaving safely. In response, Deputy Marshals exited the vehicle in an attempt to clear the roadway and restore order.

During this effort, one Deputy Marshal pushed Lorenzo-Genchi toward the edge of the road to move him out of the way. Despite this, Lorenzo-Genchi returned and began acting aggressively. He struck the driver’s side mirror of the law enforcement vehicle with his fist, causing damage. As the vehicle again tried to leave, he grabbed the rear windshield wiper and bent it, rendering it unusable.

When a Deputy Marshal intervened again, Lorenzo-Genchi escalated further by spitting on the officer, intensifying the confrontation.

Escalation with rocks and damaged vehicles

The situation grew more dangerous as Lorenzo-Genchi walked away from the immediate scene and began targeting departing law enforcement vehicles. Authorities say he threw rocks and debris, striking at least seven vehicles in total.

One of the thrown objects shattered the rear passenger-side window of a vehicle that was occupied at the time, creating a serious safety risk for those inside. Officers attempted to move in and arrest him at the scene, but the presence of an increasingly large and tense crowd made it unsafe to take immediate action.

Lorenzo-Genchi was later arrested under a federal warrant, bringing the incident to a close.

Federal officials emphasized that the officers involved were performing their duties at the time of the attack. “Any assault on federal law enforcement officers who are simply carrying out their official duties and following orders to keep our communities safe will result in federal charges. Deputies who serve in the United States Marshals Service like those who were targeted here are an invaluable part of the federal law enforcement community. They apprehend some of the nation’s most dangerous fugitives, and they enforce the federal sex offender registry. These assaults on their deputies cannot be tolerated because it jeopardizes their ability to carry out these critical public safety missions. Justice was done with this conviction and sentence.”

The case was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations, and prosecutors moved forward with charges based on the violent nature of the incident and the risks posed to officers and the public.

With the sentencing now complete, Lorenzo-Genchi will serve his time in federal prison before transitioning to supervised release, marking the conclusion of a case that began with a routine operation but quickly turned into a serious confrontation.
